New video card/Power supply help needed
« on: June 03, 2009, 05:41:19 PM »
I didn't want to take over worp's thread so I started my own.

This is my desktop. I was looking into getting this video card but I need a new power supply as well since that desktop only have a 400w power supply.

I'm looking into the Pc power and cooling power supplies. Any other recommendations?

edit: Maybe this Cooler Master Real Power Pro Series 850W

Nope, never had a problem. It works perfectly. I just want more FPS. Maybe I should just leave it be so I don't jinx it.

I'd first get a better power supply if I was in your shoes. The Corsair power supplies kick ass. My 620 watt purrs like a kitty. You have a good video card and if you get the power supply first, maybe the gtx260 or higher will be cheaper. If you can afford both now ,cool but if $$ is tight, get the power supply first.

Ding is going to say go with a BFG psu but tell him to suck a hog. Also, so you are not confused, Ban EM meant to type "not a ATI". ATI makes Radeon shit.

Buy this PSU   click

PCP&C   Is an EXCELLENT psu manufacturer.   They dont use cheap components like other psu makers do.

I did not know that. Wow. Also, I like the new thing where when you quote someone, it removes that person's quote.

If a power supply doesn’t come with a lifetime replacement warranty then it’s a piece of shit. I have a Thermaltake 700 watt Toughpower, it comes with independent rails for video power.

They show for me, try clearing your cache by hitting F5, if that doesnt work then try hard deleting your cache by hitting Crl F5.

They work for me. As guest and logged in.

Ultra makes good power supplies

this one is very useful, you can use only the cords necessary creating less clutter

Modular PSU

or of course their lifetime series, they guarantee the product for life

Standard PSU

Hey blah,

i recommed this nice PSU : Be-Quiet StraightPower 600W ( i own this PSU )

http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/index.php?StoryID=215&websiteLang=en

There is a PSU Calculator on the Homepage to that you can fill out, to find the right Power unit.

note : 600, 700 or more W are not most important, some Manufactors are using cheap parts! look at the 3V,5V and 12V performance.

you should better install a radiator-fan on the back of your case that throw out heatet Air of your case!

Graphics : BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE 55 896MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card

http://www.amazon.com/BFG-GeForce-MAXCORE-Express-Graphics/dp/B0029D8D32/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250874305&sr=1-4

little more expensive but its NVIDIA. NVIDIA using silent fan with temp. control.

Make shure that the Grapicscard fit in your case, its a really small case that you own ( mini-Case )

WTF, why cost the PSU in our country only the half as in Germany, i payed 100Euro= 145$b  :o

Have a nice day, maybe see you later

n'thing the GTX260, I have one and it purrs like a kitten.  As far as PSU goes just get something that has decent reviews on newegg and is at least 600w.

What Heuchler said is very true - be sure the card will fit in your case.  I have a massive metal behemoth of a full ATX tower case (its actually a server case) and the card barely squeezed in.  It's roughly the size of a brick, except a bit more shallow and possibly an inch or two longer.  You're going to need at least 9-10in of space for the card to fit along the axis of your PCI-E slot.

I have a huge case I don't use. I can just build it in there and it has lots of space. The computer I have right now was purchased just so I had something to use. My old machine was having issues and it was pissing me off, and I didn't feel like building a new one. I still haven't installed SP2 of Vista on this box yet.

I think I might just wait till this one fails, then start replacing parts with better onces and build it into the new case. By then Windows 7 will be out to purchase. I have the RC but that will expire march or may next year, I forget when exactly.

It's insane how big they make cards now.

I know.  The day that the card becomes the biggest thing in the case (over even the mobo which is all that gives it a run for its money as it is now) is going to be one hell of a day.
