Tastey, I don't think you understand what's going on. Dylan hosts the server off his home connection, cause he has verizon fios, 25 down, 25 up. Which means all source games. So we can put up another source server no problem, but we really don't have the donation base at this time to front a different game, like BC2 or something like that.

I think he has an AMD Phenom II x4 955 that he's over clocked. He told me, he could run a 2nd server, but at lower population, like 24 ish.

A 6 core cpu would do it. Honestly he needs a server, not his gaming rig, but that's not easy to get.....

more cores = better for server tasks, but i doubt he needs it.

if this werent my gaming rig i could easily run 3-6 source servers on it. i'm already running a nightfire server, dods server, http server and ftp.

Well i'm working on a dedicated server for games, but I would need donation help to get it into a datacenter and keep it there. I'm going to try and get an older dell 1850 from work. 2x3.2 GHZ intel xeons, i think dual cores, but probably singles with a few gb of ram and some nice scsi drives for raid. Could easily run the websites and 3ish gameservers. but i'm going to reiterate the point, I WOULD NEED DONATION HELP. This is a group, and as a group we should push forward, not 1 person giving all while you guys just sit back and enjoy the benefits.

Joseph, the server I would be getting from work would be free, i wouldn't need $$ help to get a server, but to maintain the cost of putting it a datacenter.

Tastey, I have no server yet, don't worry about it. If you want to send some money to someone I can use it to pay for the website. Let me know what you want to do, but the website is cheap in comparison.

hey just because i'm hosting from home it automatically means it's free and worthless for donations? you're technically paying for exactly the same thing when you rent from a company (electric/space/internet)

btw pixie said to me earlier my previous posts seemed nasty, i didnt mean it that way. to answer your question: when i upgraded the internet service back in december or so to host a server 24/7 it cost an extra $20 + approximately $5 or so in taxes that vary each month, and running high end PC 24/7 (of course with all the power saving features enabled when possible) for the servers raised the electric bill about $15-20 /month (now summer), i'd say a grand total of $35-50 /month which in all regards is still way cheaper than both renting 2 standard game servers from a company, collocating a server, renting multiple virtual private servers, renting a dedicated box from a company, and renting web/ftp space from a web host.
