Any of you guys have any recommendations for a laptop for under $500?  I've gotten a headach from researching myself, so any info on the matter would be awesome.  My use for it is pretty basic, school stuff mostly.

Hey, believe it or not I got a killer deal from circuit city recently. I know they went bust but they got bought out and now trade online only at circuitcity.com  I got a brand new Acer with a reasonable HD and 3 gigs of ram for $299. They sold out of that model pretty quick but you might check and see what they have at the moment. Buy.com seems to have pretty good prices sometimes too.

Good luck shopping and BTW, that new laptop wont help any, I'ma still gonna fuck you up.

they use custom parts, and they fill their computers with junk software.

if your talking school stuff as in just typing shit up, music, and surfing the net AND battery life is a concern, check out this netbook:

Asus Eee PC 1101HA :

8 Hours of battery life!! holy fuck!!

But for something with a bit more oomph
Acer Timeline 1810T :

I'm actually stuck between these 2 for when school starts
