its amazing to think that the foundation for the internet can be traced back to world war 1, and yet we still credit Al Gore with inventing it.

The predecessor to the Internet was known as ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), conceptually it began in 1962 and was online with its first permanent connection in late 1969.
