Title: Refusal to boot
Post by: D-MAN on November 12, 2009, 06:26:27 PM
When I try to load DODs by clicking on my desktop shortcut it brings up the window that says "Preparing to launch Day of Defeat: Source" and it looks like its gunna work. But after a few seconds the window closes and nothing happens besides my computer slowing down for a few seconds. Any suggestions?

on a serious note, exit steam completely, go into the c\program files\steam\ and find the file, clientregistry.blob

throw it away, that file contains all of the stored information about what games are installed and forces steam to update and search for and recognize game that may have been installed outside of steam.  not that you have any, but it has helped me numerous times.  i've had steam freeze on start up, and deleted the file, restarted steam and it worked fine.  during the update window i creates that file again, just a newer version.

If that does not work, reinstall steam completely.

Damn it. I have tried restarting steam, defragmenting, verifying game cache, and finally deleting local game content and downloading/reinstalling the game. Any other suggestions?  :'(

i get the same thing from time to time...sometimes its an easy fix, others i need to reinstall from scratch...last time was a real bitch, nothing worked..i think it fixed itself but i just cant remember...what i do know is when steam attempts to connect and fails theres some kind of ghosty residual shit that needs to be ended from the task manager so you can reconnect

idk if that was a bit confusing

It is probably a problem with another app on your computer. Have you tried disabling your AV?
